Bandhni Sarees

A Bandhni saree takes its name from bandhan, to tie. In the original craft, thousands of tiny points of cloth are pinched and bound with thread before dyeing, so the bound points resist the colour and emerge as white dots when the thread is cut. Gujarat and Rajasthan have worked this way for more than a thousand years.

These sarees carry Bandhni-inspired dot patterns as prints on modal and Chanderi. The trailing waves and diagonal fields follow the traditional layouts, and printing keeps them at a price a tied-and-dyed original could never reach. We call them Bandhni-inspired rather than Bandhni for exactly that reason.

How they wear. Dot patterns are forgiving — they read as texture from a distance and do not compete with jewellery. On modal the drape is fluid and everyday; on Chanderi it lifts towards festive.
